The Final Collect O LORD we pray, pour your grace into our hearts that as we have known the Incarnation of your Son Jesus Christ by the Message of an Angel, so by his cross and passion, we may be brought to the glory of his Resurrection, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. |
The Angelus SocietyThe Prayer Hail Mary, addressed to the Blessed Virgin Mary is composed of the Salutation of the Archangel Gabriel to Mary at the Annunciation (Luke 1:28) and Elizabeth's benediction of Mary at the Visitation (Luke 1:42). These verses have been used as a single formula within the Christian Liturgy since the sixth century. Though there have been various concluding petitions; the conclusion as we know it today, asking for the Virgin's prayers, was added in the sixteenth century. The Angelus is a daily devotion in commemoration of the Incarnation of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The Angelus Society is a loosely organized devotional fellowship of those who have chosen to join in with those throughout the world in the regular, daily observance of the Angelus. These prayers have their roots in the prayers of Christians of the early church and ultimately in the prayer of the Virgin, Be it done unto me according to your will. Customarily it is observed three times a day: 6:00 am, Noon, and 6:00 pm at the triple ringing of a bell. The devotion usually includes the repetition of a Versicle and Response made up of scriptural verses concerning the Incarnation, followed by the Hail Mary (or Ave) and concluding with the Collect of the Annunciation. On this site you will find a Downloadable Program complete with various bell files to help you with your recitation. God give you his Blessing and his Peace.
